Counselling with Ruth Evans

Whether it’s the everyday challenges of life or life changing events it can help to know you are not alone and can receive the kind of support that can help. It can be daunting to think about talking to someone about your issues and I appreciate that. For this reason, I hope to offer a collaborative, non-judgmental space for you to talk through your feelings, thoughts, and emotions. This is a supportive place for you to be listened to sensitively and know that you are not alone. I aim to help you create resilience and resourcefulness and reconnect with a sense of hope for whatever life throws your way.  I believe that the kindness and compassion within the counselling approach I use can help you work with challenges and difficulties and explore changes you may wish to make in your life to work towards feeling happier and more fulfilled.

I am a mature qualified counsellor and psychotherapist. After working in the health service for many years it was a natural transition to use my experience of working with people living with many different, stressful, and traumatic circumstances, to train as a counsellor and psychotherapist. I have a wealth of experience working with people with complex needs including mental health concerns, long term physical conditions and people with learning disabilities.

I have an established meditation practice, and if it feels right for you, I draw on this in my practice and can incorporate mindfulness or other techniques which can help combat stress and anxiety. My interests include burnout and moral injury having worked with people working in the public sector for many years. I am LGBTQIA and GSRD friendly.

I use an integrative approach which blends a wide range of approaches flexibly to suit you. I can include:

  • The person-centered approach
  • ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy)
  • CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy)
  • CFT (Compassion Focused Therapy)
  • Relational psychodynamic
  • Humanistic transactional and existential analysis
